Growing up around athletics, Jennica Finchum always knew she wanted a career where she could help athletes and others with injuries. In addition to her master of science in physician assistant studies, Mrs. Finchum has a well-rounded education including an undergraduate degree in exercise physiology, with minors in both sports medicine and chemistry.
Although many patients have had an impact on Mrs. Finchum, she tells the story of one very memorable woman who was in a car accident the day before Thanksgiving. In spite of fracturing both ankles, this elderly woman’s determination and her family’s support enabled her to overcome these injuries as well as a stroke and infection she suffered later that year. The next summer, Mrs. Finchum noticed the patient was walking through the lobby to the therapy department. Mrs. Finchum explains that it’s such a great feeling to know that our team’s hard work can give a wonderful woman like this her life back after a terrible experience.
As a physician assistant, Mrs. Finchum assesses patients, performs casting and splinting, removes sutures and pins, conducts hospital rounds, assists in surgery and communicates closely with the physicians. Although her area of special interest is sports medicine, she enjoys all aspects of orthopaedics.
Mrs. Finchum and her husband have one son, two dogs and two cats. When not caring for her patients, she enjoys jogging, wine making and watching football.
