Jenell Eddins, PA-C, chose to work in a medicine where she’d have the opportunity to observe the amazing power of the human body on a daily basis. One of the times this was most clearly demonstrated was with a 16-year-old female who was hit by a car.
This young woman had a femur fracture and a tibia/fibula fracture of the same leg. She spent weeks in the hospital undergoing many surgeries, eventually having a below knee amputation. After completing her therapy and her other fracture healed, she was fitted for a prosthesis (artificial leg) and has since fully recovered. Seeing patients like this return to their daily activities is the reason Ms. Eddins chose this specialty.
As a physician assistant, Ms. Eddins assesses patients, performs casting and splinting, removes sutures and pins, conducts hospital rounds, assists in surgery, takes patient histories, orders diagnostic tests, participates in Emergency Department Call service and communicates closely with physicians.
Ms. Eddins enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. She has found that Peoria offers a lot to its residents, but also enjoys the access to other major cities.
