Dr. MaryElizabeth Rashid Joins Great Plains
October 2011: Great Plains Orthopaedics announces that MaryElizabeth Rashid, M.D., has joined its practice. Dr. Rashid most recently practiced as Chief of Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery in the Department of Orthopaedics of St. Louis University.
Dr. Rashid received her Medical Doctorate at the University of Buffalo School of Medicine in Buffalo, New York and completed her General Surgery Residency at the University of Buffalo. Dr. Michael Billhymer Joins Great Plains
September 2011: Great Plains Orthopaedics is pleased to announce that Michael E. Billhymer, M.D., has joined its practice. In addition to his clinical skills, Dr. Billhymer comes to GPO with a strong research background.
Dr. Billhymer received his doctorate of medicine from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. He completed an orthopaedic traumatology fellowship at Florida Orthopaedic Institute at Tampa General Hospital.
He is a member of the Christian Medical & Dental Association (CMDA) through which he has served populations in his native New Mexico as well as abroad with medical mission trips to Guatemala and Honduras. To learn more about Dr. Billhymer, please click here.

Dr. Richard Driessnack to Practice at Great Plains
December 2010: Dr. Richard Driessnack will return to Great Plains Orthopaedics after a tenure as Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the prestigious Vanderbilt University Medical Center. While there, he trained in the techniques of the very successful Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure for use in the younger and more physically-active population.
Dr. Driessnack is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon who was a part of the Great Plains team from 1998 to 2008 – he now returns after his service at Vanderbilt. Dr. Driessnack provides a full range of orthopaedic services, but specializes in hip and knee joint replacement. Two Physician Assistants Join the GPO Team
October 2010: Keirstin Mott, PA-C, and Jenell Eddins, PA-C, have joined Great Plains Orthopaedics as Physician Assistants. They assess patients, perform casting and splinting, remove sutures and pins, conduct hospital rounds, assist in surgery and communicate with physicians.
Mrs. Mott received her Master of Medicine in Physician Assistant Studies from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. She previously taught high school chemistry and biology, as well as coached soccer, basketball and track.
Prior to joining Great Plains, Ms. Eddins practiced as a Physician Assistant in Williamsburg, VA. She completed her Master of Science, Physician Assistant studies at Seton Hill University in Greensburg, PA.
Both professionals are Board Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA).

Crash Course: Concussions and High School Sports
August 26, 2010: “Concussions are the hot topic now,” said Greg Gaa, director of therapy and outreach services for Great Plains Orthopaedics. “We’re getting more questions from the general public and the athletic community about them.
“Parents hear the horror stories from the NFL and don’t want their kids to experience something similar.”
